Just yesterday, I reached an interesting point in my unofficial tally of atheists I know in one way or another. Of all those former Christians I know who have become atheist, 300 were raised Catholic and only 3 were raised in some Protestant denomination (as yet, I know no Orthodox who have become Atheist).
This is an interesting number for me. By and large, my anecdotal evidence suggests that there is something in Catholicism that seems to inspire atheism. Honestly, I have no idea what it could be, but as a Protestant myself I sort of suspect it’s got something to do with the traditions.
I’d appreciate any insights I can get into this.
